Five months on...
The Local Homemade Craft & Produce Sale started in December 2012, to provide and outlet for Inspira’s Young People’s Wooly Craft Group, which runs on a weekly basis at Riversmeet. Now just five months on, the Craft and Produce Sale is gaining momentum with stalls displaying an array of handmade and homemade items - both edible and ornamental - all made by local sellers.
On offer at the Craft & Produce Sale, you will be treated to an assortment of stalls;
- Freshly baked homemade cakes and artisan bread from Riversmeet members Mary & Kevin
- Wild Zucchinis’ ready meals
- Scales Farm free range eggs
- Beans on the Scene coffee
- Young entrepreneurs from Cockermouth School Molly and Izzy’s glass jewellery
- Inspira’s Young Person’s Wooly Crafts Group
- Varnycrooks Organic Meat
- Local Charles Wilcox’s handmade cards
....and more!
Supporting Local Enterprise
Not only does the fair open the resource centre as a useful facility to local sellers, but it also makes local food and crafts more accessible to the local community.
The December event was a success, with over 50 visitors to the sale, and over £120 made for Riversmeet through the 20% commission sellers agree to on all sales. The Produce Sale was also held in March and April, with over 200 visitors to each, and a similar financial gain as December - suggesting a promising turnout for the next months to come as it continues to grow!
Positive Feedback!
Our handy 'visitor's book' is a great way to hear feedback on our events, and we are very pleased to read such positive comments made from those that have visited the Produce Sale! Our diverse selection of items displayed and the sense of community spirit created by the fair have been echoed in the praise we have recieved such as; "great variety of crafts & produce" .... "an asset to the community" and.... "lovely atmosphere".
It is a real tribute to the sellers and volunteers who welcome visitors to the centre, that Riversmeet are able to continue to offer this event every 1st Saturday of the month and help keep Riversmeet open.
Business As Usual
Pop down to our Produce Sale this coming Saturday on the 4th May, and see for yourself our lovely selection of homemade goods. The sale is open 10am until 3pm at the resource centre in Market Place. This Saturday we have local singer/songwriter Katie Gentry playing some tunes and local community choir Sing Owt (led by Dave Camlin) will also be performing. Come along and support Riversmeet and the local sellers!
